The premise of the American democratic experiment is engagement of individual people: this course aims to equip students to have a deeper understanding of what the US political system is and how it works, with the goal of students feeling more comfortable and confident to engage in it as active citizens. Students will collaboratively develop policy memos and speeches on current political issues, engage with local government officials while following the November election process, and will practice research and discussions skills as they explore mediums of social change within our democracy.
